The ABC Family Network is a cable channel that has risen in popularity over the last two years with hit shows like “Kyle XY” and “Greek.” It is looking to continue that success with the addition of a new show titled “Samurai Girl.”
Shooting in Vancouver this Spring, “Samurai Girl” is based on the YA-novels about a Japanese teenager who discovers that her adopted father is the head of the Japanese crime syndicate, commonly known as ‘Yakuza.’ Disturbed by this knowledge, she begins a highly evolved training process in the ancient art of samurai combat techniques to try and bring down her father’s illegal empire.
The six one-hour long episodes star Jamie Chung (“Dragonball”) as the female lead character named Heaven. Her co-stars include “Roswell” and “C.S.I. Miami” actor Brendan Fehr, Saige Thompson (“Ghost Whisperer,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”), Kyle Labine (“Grand Star”) and Anthony Wong (Matrix Trilogy of films), and Kenneth Choi (“24”).
“X-Files” alum Frank Spotnitz will share executive producing duties with Bob Levy and Leslie Morgenstein.
“Samurai Girl” will air in August in three 2-hour segments.

why can’t hollywood ever get Japanese people to play Japanese people? I know it’s the ‘Memoirs’ argument all over again. Not that its a really big deal and I don’t expect so much from hollywood but it seems I’ve been seeing this kind of thing everywhere I look.
Greg Moore says
Came here to say just that.

I loved samurai girl (books) so I’m a little annoyed that they’re changing the story. What about Hiro and Teddy? Why is her love interest some Jake guy? They’re probably going to ruin it by getting rid of so many central characters.

I haven’t read the books, but I think the show is amazing. I like Jake for Heaven. Jake might be the americanized Hiro.
