Author and creator of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, 42 told the London Daily Mail that an eighth Potter book is not out of the question.
The biggest reason for a possible return of the famous boy wizard comes from Rowling’s 14-year old daughter Jessica. The author hinted that she has been getting some pressure from Jessica to put out an eighth Potter novel.
Her other children, now ages 4 and 2, will soon be getting old enough to appreciate the novels as well and are sure to want more stories from mommy.
Rowling does admit that if she succumbs to the temptation to write another Potter story, Harry, who is now getting older, will no longer be the central character.
She went on in the London press article to say that, “If – and it’s a big if – I ever write an eighth book, I doubt that Harry would be the central character. I feel I’ve already told his story. “But these are big ifs. Let’s give it ten years.”
Rowling recently told Time magazine that “There have been times since finishing, weak moments, when I’ve said ‘Yeah, all right’ to the eighth novel.”
Rowling is currently writing two different works on progress, an adult novel and, as she puts it, a “political fairy tale.”

I just wish that Rowling would let her work speak for herself. She appears incapable of giving any interview or conducting a speaking engagement without feeling a need to blurt out some new piece of exclusive information.
She wrote the biggest book series ever – she does NOT need to pander to every journo or fan begging for something new. It’s time she just shut up!

I don’t think this request came from just any fan begging for something new. It’s a little hard to say no to your own children wanting more stories they enjoy reading so much — as well as every one else’s kids too.

Sam,
That is fine – but she can’t keep it to herself! Promise and plan for her daughter as she sees fit, but don’t tell the world about it now through a press interview.
It is just not necessary – Harry Potter will continue to be massively promoted through the next two movies. She just doesn’t need to keep drip feeding sensational tidbits to the press on the topic – it’s like she’s got some weird form of media-related Tourette’s Syndrome, and she just can’t help herself!
It comes across as relentless self aggrandizement, and in my opinion debases what she has achieved.
Sam says
David — Maybe you’d be a little more understanding if your checking account dipped below the billion dollar mark. ๐
Arkle says
I’ve got two words for you Rowling. George Lucas. Don’t let your kids have story input.
Dana says
Wow…an author whose work is beloved speaks honestly to the press and her fans…and people criticize her for it.
Weird.
I guess some of you folks also hate it when actors give interviews or when musicians go on tour.
