Another good SF show bites the dust.
Scott Peters, writer, creator and executive producer of “The 4400” announced that the show hasn’t been picked up by the USA Network for another season.
Peters’ Announcement:
To all the wonderful fans of The 4400
It’s with great sadness that I pass along to you the information I’ve just received — The 4400 has been cancelled. We’ve had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters. Thank you especially to the folks on the board here whose tireless devotion to the show is nothing short of remarkable. Shout out to Bubba, by the way! I love your posts, man.
I just spoke to Joel and we had a great talk about what we all accomplished and how much we’ll miss our family that is our crew and our cast… and our fans. But at least we got to go out with a bang! I had an awesome time directing the last episode. I think I got to make almost every single cast member cry (on camera). How much fun was that?!
So let me raise my metaphorical glass to you all and thank you for being so loyal and so dedicated. I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end. Be well and on behalf of all of us at The 4400 — thank you, it’s been a pleasure.

Oh FFS!!!!
When will BS TV execs get the message and stop cancelling excellent Sci-Fi and replacing it with all the other drivel.

well,
I am down to just three shows now. I wont say which three, I don’t want to jinx myself further.

Oh! NBC/Universal, I thought you loved me! You’ve been so wonderful to me these last few years! What happened?
WonderJenn says
Suck. And double suck.
Emily says
Well, thats just great….what other shows does USA even have? Nothing on American tv to watch in the summer, well frak this…I say we fight it lol
Yeah, it went downhill…but still, you can’t leave on that. Its jsut not logical. Give me books, give me minisodes, give me direct to dvd stuff, but I waited four years to see what was going on, I invested in these characters, and I want to know what was going on.

I am very disappointed. I really liked The 4400 and I am a loyal fan since the start in 2004. For me the 4th season finale was not a closure. There are still many unanswered questions left. I can only hope we get a miniseries in the future.

When people stop watching the stupid drivel. Sadly, I don’t see that happening for a long long time…
K-Man says
How about a “Save The 4400” campaign. Where can we send our syringes of glowing ‘promicin’?
Mark in St. Louis says
It looks like they also canned “The Dead Zone”.
Maureen says
Well – now I will be watching USA Network – not at all. The 4000 was the only show that I have ever watched on that network. It would be too much to hope that the SciFi Network would pick it up. If they just picked up good shows that got canceled by other networks it might solve their series programming problem as the majority of original material that they produce stinks.
Michael Natale says
Is this really that much of a surprise? The show rocked in its first 2 seasons but it seemed to me S3 was OK and S4 was the same kind of silly, disjointed mess that Heroes has become.
tim and darcy low says
Okay,
I am now down to two shows. Damn it!

I understand how passionate fans are about their shows, but let’s be honest the show wasn’t that good. It started out very promising but seemed to lack focus and often falling back on tired cliches and B movie acting. The show did have an intriguing premise and potentiel but fell more into soap opera boredom. It never really felt as if the fate of all humanity was at stake. Maybe it was because the focus was more on the characters and their own personnel issues, their famillies, their relationships, then ” the fate if the world “. The problem I had was that the characters, with 1 or 2 exceptions weren’t that interesting They seemed rather self absorbed and petty. They also didn’t seem to be the sharpest knives in the draw at times. another problem was that the show had little or no budget. For a story to be this epic with the fate of the future at hand, the shoe string look of the show didn’t hold up. That’s probably why the show tried to stay more focused on the chracters. The problem being the characters aren’t very interesting to watch. They seem at times dull witted with none of them questioning the significant plot holes the are inherint in the overall plot of the show. Also like Lost the characters don’t seem to get their moment of truth. Where, they get to make a stand and do something significant or extraordinary ala Hereos. I might feel different if the show were able to resolve itself, but it doesn’t seem we will get that chance. It’s been 4 seasons and no resoulution seems to have been given. It would appear the people from the future had the same problem the producers, that they didn’t think things through. If somehow the 4400 gets asecond chance it would serve the people behind the show well to not squander a repreive and move the show forward towards it’s conclusion.

Huh. Another one bites the dust. So much for quality television.

I am very sad they at least did not end this show with a tv movie or something to tie up loose ends. Glad I didn’t buy the DVD seasons yet because I generally hold off until a series finish so I don’t get jipped with unfinshed endings.
Joe says
This really sucks because I enjoyed this show a lot. The only upside to this cancellation is that I was thinking about purchasing all the seasons on DVD so I could watch them all again before season 5 started, now I can save my money. As a matter of fact, I will NOT be buying any of the seasons now because I know it is a dead show with no ending.
I understand networks have their reasons for canceling shows. Most of the time the viewers disagree with their decisions, but we are not the ones in charge (you would think we would be). The thing that really sickens me is the way networks continually cancel shows without giving the viewers who did tune in some kind of ending. It’s like a slap in the face. At the very least they should make one last episode to wrap things up. The episode might not be the best, but at least it is some kind of ending. I’m not demanding a movie (like Serenity), just one last episode. I truly believe if a network is going to air a show and try to get viewers interested in it they should be obligated to wrap up the story line.
Honestly, I am kind of shocked that USA dropped this show. The 4400 was the only reason I ever tuned in to their network. Their line-up just doesn’t seem to be all that entertaining and none of their shows jump out and yell “Watch me”. I actually tuned in to their network so rarely I would forget what channel it is on Direct TV in between 4400 seasons. now I no longer have to worry about it. Another upside I guess!

RT, I totally disagree. The 4400 was anything BUT boring!! When a show is made, the creators must have the determination to continue their series for an extended period of time, and rushing through the storyline is not how you make that happen. If the creators resolved everything within a few seasons, it would only mean that they WANT they’re show to be cancelled. Besides, I liked the feeling of knowing the characters personally and being able to understand how they felt in result of what was happening to each of them. I enjoyed the 4400 a great deal, including Season 4 which most seem to have thought was less than promising. I liked the implied political messages and the fact that nothing really was ever expected. Anything could happen, which is more than I can say for most other shows that seem to be so predictible. Nonetheless, if USA was going to cancel the series, they could have at least allowed for a final season in order to tie up the lose ends. I actually think the Season 4 ending would have been a pretty good stopping point if there weren’t all of these unresolved side stories to which 4400 fans anxiously await the conclusions. With that said, I love the 4400 and am an avid watcher! I would gladly watch another season and really wouldn’t mind 3, 4 or 5 more!

I believe sudden cancellations are a disrespect to the public that has invested time to watch a series. As everything is business and they aim only gain, it ends up being very bad business to cancel a show that has kept many people together. To me it means that I am not watching USA network anymore. After 4 years they come out with this act of disrespect. Well, I am not willing to have anything else to do with a company that disrespect its audience, and will probably do it again. Unfortunately they are forgetting that they exist because of the ones that watch them, and buy their products. I am not one of them anymore. I do not trust companies that cheat on their viewers. With a bad line up of programs and canceling what is good… well… I wonder!!!

Well well, glad I read this before I invested in a dish… just moved, the only way to pick up USA Network was through Direct TV… Now I no longer need it.
All the best shows…

4400 was awesome and it is a bit of a bummer and it would be good if it has a final miniseries or something but Peter has a point. It may not have come clear with absolutely anything but Collier seems to have the place under control and everybody loves him. To me, I am happy the way it ended. But still at least one final finale seems necessary

Well, this is teh suck! 4400 dead, and now I’ve seen talks of Sarah Conner not getting renewed. Do TV execs just not like SciFi shows or is it something else? Of course you can always tune in to USA for Monk every week … meh!!
Tiffany says
i know that this is a little late, but i never realized that they had canceled it. i just thought to check today and now-bam!-my summer is already starting to suck.
i wish that scifi would pick this up, they could just drop ghost hunters since it sucks way hard anyway.
or USA could drop burn notice, it sucks hard too. and why is it that USA keeps coming out with all of these cop-related shows (Burn notice, Monk, in plain sight, plus showing law&order svu/CI). a little bit of variety would be nice.
i mean, the 4400 had cops in it, but they weren’t really cops at the same time…and the show actually had depth. out of the now-standing lineup, it seems that Law&order svu is the only show thats been able to accomplish that (i haven’t seen in plain sight yet, but it looks stupid).
I’m really angry because i feel like I’ve wasted four summers of my life (i’m only 17) and now there isnt even an ending.
Fanfic, anyone?

IM SAD, WELL LIFE CONTINUE… WITHOUT THE 4400!! SNIFF!! SNIFF!! BUT IS STILL CONTINUE ๐

Well I am really late on this one. I jumped into the series in season 2 and got hooked on it and now this summer I kept waiting and waiting for it to show up on the tv guide and no 4400 so I get online and obviously I find that they canceled 4400. I am very disappointed that they did not even close it up in anyway.

First Dark Angel now this, will you not even let the shows have a decent ending??? None of myfav programmes are running, no Buffy / Angel / Dark Angel / Tru Calling / Charmed and now 4400. I have nothing to watch ๐ I hate stupid USA Network

I just watched all 4 seasons of The 4400 and I have to say I am impressed. I know it’s been 7 years since the cancelation, but I gotta say this is one of the best shows I have seen yet. Would you ever consider giving the show show another go? Please? You have no idea how much I love this show. It’s too good a show to be over. I don’t want it to be over. ๐ please bring The 4400 back!!!

Same here, just binged watched the 4400 on Netflix with my husband and kids. So addictive. I definitely needed another season we all did but it is kinda good because I can actually become unglued from the television. It was dangerous because it was so captivating.
I know I am seriously a johnny come lately but where was the advertising, I had never heard about the show nor seen any commercials I don’t know how this show slipped below radar. It is amazing!!!!!! I heard there is some book that resolves several issues I will definitely be picking it up if there is. Meanwhile, if a movie came out to resolve the story. I’d definitely pay to see it. But how could they end it it could have gone in so many directions. Seriously with a premise like it had, it could have gone in any number of directions. Color me ashamed of whatever network let it go.

It was a favorite show of mine as well, and yes there were novels released, about a year or so after the show had been canceled. You might be able to search for them on Amazon.
Definitely listen to the various interviews we did back then with cast and producers of both “The 4400” and “The Dead Zone” (both shows were staples on USA Network, with “The Dead Zone” even having some episodes aired on NBC).

I found this series on Netflix.
Had no idea the show canceled on a cliffhanger. After I spent a week and burned up about 6 GB. Watching on my phone. It was very engaging. I loved the characters. Really hoped the show execs would find a way to bring closure to this show……
