“Battlestar Galactica” Season Three on DVD in August?

March 27, 2007 By Mike Hickerson 31 Comments

Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Journalist)

On his blog, “Battlestar Galactica,” composer Brear McCreary tells fans the show’s third season will be out on DVD in August 2007.

McCreary says the release date will coincide with a third-season soundtrack release.

This news has not been confirmed by any official sources from NBC Universal, nor are we aware of any extras that may or may not be on the releases. It’s assumed (based on previous releases) the Ron Moore podcasts will be included as commentaries as well as the webisodes that led up to season three. Other potential extras could include the deleted scenes shown on SciFi’s web site, producer David Eick’s video blogs and the blooper reel that made its round on YouTube.

Maybe this will help the long wait for new “Battlestar” as we all ponder the revleations from the final moments on Sunday night’s finale episode.

I can’t believe that I’m considering to buy a BSG DVD, but I am. I’ll be buying this one when it gets released. Maybe I could get it as a birthday present.

August seems so far away, but its better than November which I read earlier. Can only watch it on dvd, so really looking forward to its release here.

Hope it has all those webisodes, but I get the feeling it wont have them for the usual reasons.

undoubtedly the best show on tv today, most people aren’t in on it. this show will live on more after it’s off the air because when it ends, people will realize how hip it was for it’s time and relevance.i can’t wait to buy season 3 and purchase the rest of the series including razor and season 4.sometimes a show can get a second chance and be done right by people who have vision and imagination.

Season 3 is now available for pre-sale on the Amazon.com UK site. They have the release date scheduled as Sept 3rd. But on Amazon USA- it’s still just “sign up for an email..”

    I wonder why?

I was talking to the Best Buy distributor for Maryland and he said they’re being told it won’t hit the US until December around the same time Razor is released to DVD (this is the mini-series detailing the Pegasus storyline until they catch up to the Galactica).

This most definitely sucks ***. When companies do crap like this, keep silent and keep delaying for ridiculous amounts of time for no reason and without explanation, people get fed up and just don’t buy it. I will likely be one of those many people downloading it from a free site, instead of waiting for an additional 1-2 years while they sit with their thumb up their ***…

Universal Home Entertainment keeps telling me that there are no plans for a season 3 release because of “contractual demands”? WTF?!! I know Universal got an earfull by splitting up Season two into DVD boxes to further gouge the fan’s of their money. I hope when season 3 finally gets released that they don’t try pulling that stunt again.

I just found out from a distributer that BSG Season 3 will be released next week in its entirety. It will also be available in DVD and HD-DVD but not Blu-Ray. Can’t wait!

I have been looking, still haven’t seen it available in the US. It’s been over a week since DeadDog posted. Seen it yet, DeadDog?

Also, Amazon UK has it, but NOT Amazon US.

    To quote Trelew, WTF?

And I agree with me3. I’m thinking bittorrent or some other free download site.

I heard the “contractual” problems involve the series of Occupation webisodes that were released online in between Seasons 2 and 3. Universal planned on putting all the webisodes together on the DVD collection as a 25-minute ‘episode zero.’ But Universal may be having problems getting its hands on the online content for the Region 1 DVD… since there was a dispute between the Writers Guild and the studio concerning compensation for the writer-directors who worked on the webisodes (who allegedly weren’t paid proportionally for the time and work spent on the webisodes – the studio considered the webisodes ‘promotional material’ and refused to pony up).

Still hasn’t popped up at Amazon. I check since I’m in there all the time as is. Sadly some ETAs are pushing it out until Spring ’08 but it’s hard to believe they’d miss the holiday season.

I keep looking and hoping. My roommate missed all of Season 3 and it would be nice to get him caught up before Season 4. I was hoping SciFi was going to play them all again as reruns, but it looks like they are only planning on replaying 7 of the episodes! Keep me posted!

oy vey. If it’s about the webisodes, then they need to screw the webisodes and leave them off (and sell it for LESS as a result). This almost makes me wish I’d downloaded them, as much as I hate itunes.

I can’t get it on amazon and all they have are U.K. and Australian versions and they cost like 110 bucks or something plus the shipping makes you cough up an extra 15 bucks. I’m not paying 135 bucks for BSG, even though it’s the best show on tv.

It’s October, release the DVD! At least before Holiday season!

This is ridiculous. This delay is causing people to find ways and means of getting Season 3 and in some cases for free!!! This delay is costing them alot of money. can’t believe it!!!

With this long a wait, I think I’m not alone in doubting I’ll buy BSG-3 at all. My wife and I are thinking about starting with the 1st season of a new series and going all the way through that like we did with “24”. It’s nice to relax after we put the kids to bed and even our expensive service which carries Sci-Fi usually doesn’t fit our schedule as well as a series on DVD. And we couldn’t even find BSG-4 on Sci-Fi, so we’re just dropping the whole thing and looking for another DVD series, maybe Smallville.

This is fraking nuts….I mean seriously get the DVD out for the US. UK is already out NOW. And for those that want to buy it for US have to wait…and wait…and fraking wait. Looks like its going to be freedownloads if they don’t get it out soon. Or drop BSG all togeather and switch to another DVD series like Mike says.

I couldn’t find season 3 on bittorent. Anyone know where else I can download it? I really don’t want to shell out the $100+ it’d cost me to get it from the UK, and I don’t want to wait for the writer’s strike to end to get it (if that is what is going on with those “webisodes”)!

Amazon has the downloads available- $1.99 per episode. I think it’s ridiculous that it has taken this long to come out. I didn’t watch the show when it first came out and so I wanted to be able to watch season 3 to get caught up for season 4. Oh Well. If the show wasn’t as good as it is I would just stop watching the whole thing.

It’s getting to be just like Hollywood, fracking things up! Hollywood is on this kick of re-making great TV shows into comedy’s and now Land of the Giants is a ridiculous $199.00! WTF? Who cares about the fracking webisodes, Season 1-2 don’t have any, why not just leave them out and later when the children get done having their pissing match, they can bring them out on a Special DVD. If it’s not the price killing us it’s the wait!

    Fracking Morons!!!

I think their just doing this to cash in on $1.99 per episode price… then when those stop being purchased… the box set will come out for $50. Now with with the writer strike…it could be a year before even season 4 goes on air… Hope they get their head of their #$% put this up for sale soon.

Wish the producers were 1/2 honest / good as actors in performance of their work…

I cannot believe it is the last season. SCI-FI channel is screwing up! I wrote letters SCI FI channel to complain. I am currently going back through Season 1 & 2 for understanding and clues and season 3 of what I saved on DVR. SCI FI is starting to show repeats of season 3 4:00 am CST in the morning on the SCI-FI Channel. BSG is another popular show like Star Trek and Stargate SG1. Spin-off and movies need to be in the works if SCI-FI wants to make more money. These channels leave junk on TV and shutdown the good show.

Hey. I just gave a one star “protest” review to season 3 on Amazon. If everyone does this with an explanation why, we might be able to grease the corporate wheels and finally get a release date. It’s time to take these jerks down. If Ghandi owned a DVD player, he would have done the same thing. Jesus too. Come on, just do it!

Sure you can get season 3 on the web, but collectors like me want the frackin DVD’s! I have seasons 1&2 on DVD but I dont want season 3 in some file on my computer! If the suits cant get there heads out of there ass and release season 3 on DVD they can just never release anymore shows at all because I’ll never buy any again! It’s always the morons who seem to be in-charge of it all. What ever happened to how the fans feel? the ones who keep the shows popular and on the air! Hey, lets all of us for 6 months not turn on the TV and we will see how fast the suits start crying to us about “why are you not watching our shows?” Then we will have an upper hand on things!

I agree with Don 100%. Season 3 should be on the shelf today, as it has been in europe for some time. Its hard to believe that we are still waiting … and for what? Does someone in TV land believe the fans will buy more when they are pissed off????

I buy my DVD’s, as I collect. But things like this make me wonder why bother being legal?

    Well, well, well!
I see the suits have finished there pissing match and are going to release BSG season 3 on March 18! Does not leave much time to catch up on whats going on due to the loooooong wait we have had to endure. But come April 4th we will have something good to watch again, at least for 6 months or so when it will be all over for good. But really people, how long can you stretch the series out? Like the saying gos “All Good Things Must Come To An End” I will never forget Battlestar Galactica and it will live on in my heart. I just hope we don’t have to wait until the year 2011 for season 4 on DVD. NEXT SHOW: Remake of Land of the Giants!!!!
