Fantasy author Naomi Novik, whose Temeraire books were recently optioned for film by Peter Jackson, told SCI FI Wire that the eagerly anticipated fourth book in the series is due out in fall 2007. “The working title is A Brazen Armament, but that is definitely going to change,” Novik said in an interview at the December New York Review of Science Fiction reading in New York earlier this month.
The Temeraire series takes place in an alternate-history Napoleonic Wars era, in which dragons exist, and follows the adventures of British naval captain Will Laurence, Novik said. “[He] took a French ship as a prize–in the middle of the ocean, far away from land–and found a dragon egg [on board],” she said. “The egg’s about to hatch, so [they] have to harness this dragon immediately, and Laurence ends up becoming the dragon’s captain.”
