Slice of SciFi #78: Voicemail Show

October 17, 2006 By Summer Brooks 5 Comments

This is the show for our fans and listeners! We’re receiving so much voicemail and email feedback commentary that it just won’t fit in one show anymore. But that’s okay… Keep it coming!

Short and sweet this week!

I was really happy to hear you talking about Threshold. I watched it when it was on CBS and was really disappointed when it was cancelled. It was the first time in a long time that I had watched a series on one of the “Big 3” networks because they usually cancel anything that I like. I bought the DVD set as soon as it came out and my husband and sons watched it with me – two episodes a night – until we finished them all. Protein jokes abound in the household now. Apparently the series had a three-year arc with the first year called Threshold, the second called Foothold, and the third called Stranglehold. I’d be incredibly happy if the SciFi channel would commit to two movies or miniseries, one for Foothold and the other for Stranglehold – but I’m not holding my breath.

The enjoyment of Stargate is different for different people. I personally watch Stargate for its “fun’ness”. It isn’t anything close to dramatic or intelligent. O’Neill constantly reminds us that the show is full of cliches and plot holes or whatever.

That said, I don’t quite understand your joygasms over Doctor Who. I mean, I watched it and all, but it just isn’t as good as you guys and girl make it out to be. Battlestar too, I don’t dislike it, but I think I’m starting to get tired of the show. Its first season was great, and it just seems to be going downhill for me.

Mike, Evo and Joe are the big Dr Who fans in the crowd. I like the new Who better than what I saw of the older Who in the 70s and 80s on PBS, but I didn’t go out of my way to take those virtual trips to the UK to see the 2nd season like they did.

I’m watching it on SciFi, and while I enjoy the show, to be honest, I won’t be heartsick if I miss an episode or three. The same cannot be said for my temperament if that were the case with BSG or Heroes 🙂

BSG still has fire, at least for me.

Hiya, just caught on to this podcast this past week when I got my iPod. Love to listen to your show.

Re: Heroes – absolutely LOVE it. I often am sleeping when it’s on (I work nights as a nurse), but usually the next day, I download it and watch it on my laptop, and can burn them off for future viewings, which is a definite for this series.

As for Doctor Who, when I was in the UK in May/June, I picked up the series 1 discs, which were packaged in a box the shape of the Tardis. Paid a bit more for it, but oh, wow. Amazing. Helps to have a Multi-Region (or rather NTSC/PAL) DVD player. I plan to do that with the second series – ordering via amazon.co.uk, as this year’s series 2 discs are packaged as The Cyberman. Take a peak at that Amazon site. Fantastic.

    Keep up the great work!
