Two weeks ago we reported that Nicole Kidman was in negotiations to star in The Golden Compass, the first film in a “His Dark Materials” trilogy. Yesterday The Daily Mail indicated that these reports are now true as Kidman will assume the role of Mrs. Coulter, a deliciously wicked and insidious character.
Also in casting news for the same flick, IGN Film Force has stated that Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code) is in final negotiations to star as Lord Asriel.
Another name likely star to the project may be Claire Higgins, the award-winning British television actress.
As we reported on our show, child actress Dakota Blue Richards, picked from a huge 10,000 children casting call, will be taking on the key role of orphan Lyra Belacqua.
Shooting of The Golden Compass begins in September. The follow-up novels “The Subtle Knife” and “The Amber Spyglass” will follow “Compass.” All three stories are based on the popular fantasy children’s books by British author Philip Pullman.
Look for The Golden Compass, the first film, in theaters in November, 2007.
