TV Talk: “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” had a huge episode this week, featuring the death of a major character. What’s next for the series as the second season continues and moves to Fridays in February? Producer Josh Friedman offers a few hints.

Interview: “Supernatural” producer and writer Sera Gamble speaks to the studio crew about the hit CW series. Sera looks at the way the writers research the various mythologies of demons, ghosts and other things for Dean and Sam to battle with week and week out. She also gets into the way the writers and producers come up with the story arcs for Dean and Sam, including the fact that each character seems to die on a regular basis on the series.

In The Future:

Director John Boorman has signed on to direct the new animated version of “The Wizard of Oz.”
“Chuck” will benefit from NBC’s Super Bowl promotion with a 3-D episode in February

After months of stalemate with producers, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has asked for help in the negotiations from the U.S. government in the form of a federal mediator.

A former American fighter pilot said that 51 years ago he was ordered to shoot down a gigantic UFO over Norwich, England that fled from his jet at nearly 10,000 mph.

CBS is hoping to get eyeballs back on the screen, albeit, computer screens with its new CBS Interactive “social viewing rooms.”

Crazy Joe’s A Punch in the Junk: Joe gives up a Punch in the Junk to the producers of the comicbook-to-film adaptation of “Jonah Hex” due out in 2010 and rumored to star Josh Brolin in the lead role.

Movie Talk:

Nursery School teacher Jenny and her boyfriend Steve, escape for a romantic weekend getaway only to be hounded, harassed and placed in great danger by a group of teenagers hellbent on terrorizing the couple. “Eden Lake,” is more of the same in the vein of “SAW” and other slasher films of the genre.

“Otto; or Up With Dead People” is a movie about a young zombie named Otto who appears on a remote highway with no idea where he came from or where he is going until he hooks up with young indie filmmaker Medea Yarn.

Interviews: Jeffrey Combs, the actor who has starred in such films as the classic horror film “The Re-animator,” was pivotal in several Star Trek shows playing characters like Commander Shran on “Enterprise,” Weyoun for “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and Penk in “Star Trek: Voyager” is our very special guest this week. Jeffrey’s most prominent role for many fans of sci-fi was that of Professor Kevin Burkhoff on “The 4400.” The stage-trained actor shares his take on the whole fan popularity of the Re-animator film and its spin-offs and gives a brief inside look of how these kinds of movies, including the classic “Frankenstein,” have become such a visceral part of horror movie history. Jeffrey is in Phoenix this weekend to be inducted into the International Horror/Sci-fi Film Festival Hall of Fame.

On January 9, 2009 “Clive Barker Presents Hellraiser” based on “The Hellbound Heart” by Clive Barker and his 1987 film “Hellraiser.”

Gizmodo has posted some really cool images of a Battlestar Galactica designed PC that is frakin’ awesome. This uniquely designed BSG PC model can actually hold colonial vipers and raptors.

Get ready for a big change in some familiar Biblical tales. The Bible is about to go Manga, robots and mecha-infused armor and all.

Zachary Quinto, the actor who will be portraying the younger Spock for the new Star Trek feature film said in a recent interview that fans will meet familiar characters in a new and different way.

Movie Talk:

There is a new Swedish horror film opening in limited release outside of that country called “Let the Right One In,” the story of young vampire/human love. J.J. Abrams has acquired the English-speaking rights to the film so there could be a Hollywood version coming later.

Academy Award nominated actor Don Cheadle will be replacing Terrance Howard as James “Rhoady” Rhodes for the next big Iron Man flick.

TV Talk:

Most of all the new SF shows for the fall have now debuted and some have done so with pretty fair ratings. The biggest challenge for viewers is how the networks have pitted their competing shows against one another. Some are showing as many as 3 at the same time and with some favorites from last year returning, even owning a DVR won’t help catch them all. That being said, while the ratings have been fair to good — only a couple are clear winners and we share all the latest standings with you.

Interview: Mike and Summer talk with comic book writer/creator Jimmy Palmiotti, one of the main writers behind the “Dead Space” video game. Jimmy also has an impressive resume, writing for such TV shows like “Painkiller Jane” and “Speed Racer: The Next Generation.” He also wrote for video games such as “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe,” “Ghost Rider” and “Punisher.” Besides the “Dead Space” video game and the upcoming animated made-for-DVD film based on the game, Jimmy also talks about some of his future projects and the prospect of doing a live-action Dead Space movie.

Future Talk:

Actor Sam Neill of the SF films “Event Horizon” and “Jurassic Park” is getting ready to star in a new film that will be co-opted between China and Australia called “The Last Dragon.”

Jason Statham’s character from the film “Crank” gets resurrected in his next high-intensity follow-up to the life of hitman Chev Chelios in “Crank: High Voltage.”

The Jim Henson Company’s Alternative label will see the famous muppets solving crimes in a new made-for-adults film noir detective drama called “Happytime Murders.”

Slice of SciFi Interview with Eureka’s Erica Cerra

Actress Erica Cerra stars as the no-nonsense, feisty deputy sheriff Jo Lupo on the very successful original SCI FI Channel series “Eureka,” which airs every Tuesday night.

Raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Erica was a child actress appearing mainly in commercials before taking a break during her teenage years to concentrate on her school work. Eventually she restarted her career in show business, first on the stage, then with roles in television shows like “Special Unit 2,” “Jake 2.0,” “Smallville,” “Dead Like Me” and “Blade: Trinity.” More recently she has appeared in several episodes of “The L Word,” “Battlestar Galactica” and The CW’s “Reaper.”

Our Slice of SciFi reporter Linda Craddock was able to catch up with Erica on the busy and noisy set of “Eureka” to talk with her between takes during the shooting for the second half of season three. Erica took a few minutes to share some things fans can expect from the third season when it returns after a short hiatus. Linda’s big question to Erica was — Will there be a season four? We think you might like her answer.

Special Segment: A Con Review: Sushi gives a very positive review for an unique gathering called Outside Con.

Movie Talk:

“Passengers” is a mysterious psychological thriller about survivors of a plane crash that leads to a secret not of this world. The film stars Anne Hathaway in the lead as a psychologist counseling five of the crash survivors and coming up against some bizarre happenings.

On the scariest night of the year, Molly Hartley, the new kid in town, is in for a real fright in this tale of horror, where something evil lurks just below the surface in “The Haunting of Molly Harley.”

Slice of Trivia: Kurt in St. George brings more cheese from the 80’s with these three new clips. Send your clips. Kurt just may use them on the show.

TV Talk: Because of the 8-season success of “Smallville,” the CW Network is developing a new series based on Batman sidekick Robin’s pre-Caped Crusader days. The as-yet-untitled series will look at young Dick “D.J.” Grayson.

Interview: We talk with Joe Boudrie, the Program Director of one of the nation’s fastest growing sci-fi conventions - the Phoenix Comicon. Joe let’s us know which actors and other personalities will be attending, news about some of the Con’s events and more. The Phoenix Comicon takes place January 23-25, 2009.

Future Talk:

“Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror” will be a new full-length feature CGI animated film from the Production IG Toon House and Fuji TV. The story follows the adventures of a high school teen named Haruksa who finds herself, together with a talking fox, in a strange island filled with all the objects that have been discarded, lost or ignored over the years by human beings.

Famed director Peter Jackson has one of his most challenging films coming in the Fall of 2009 called “The Lovely Bones.” The challenge won’t be one of scope and grandness, but one of nuance’ and smallness. The story is told from the vantage point and through the eyes of Susie, a young teen who was raped and murdered, as she looks on from heaven at her grieving family.

Closing Out: The boys close out the show with another discussion, and in some cases, rants about some of the SF shows that are new and those returning this fall.

Actor/writer Robin Dunne stars as psychiatrist Will Zimmerman in the highly anticipated SCI FI Channel series “Sanctuary.” The show, part science and part supernatural, follows the exploits of a mysterious physician and scientist who seeks out all manner of extraordinary and terrifying creatures to study them and redefine the reality in which we live. The series was originally developed for the internet and ran on the web before being acquired by SCI FI to produce original episodes. This year, Dunne also appeared in the film “Jack and Jill vs The World” alongside Freddie Prinze Jr.

In 2005, Dunne co-wrote the Nickelodeon films “Roxy Hunter and the Mystery of the Moody Ghost” and “Roxy Hunter and the Secret of the Shaman.” These first two films spawned a successful franchise that has led to his co-writing the third and fourth installments in the series, “Roxy Hunter and the Myth of the Mermaid” (July) and “Roxy Hunter and the Horrific Halloween” to be released later this year. He has also co-authored the novels for Penguin Books.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Dunne attended Etobicoke School of the Arts, a performing arts high school. In 1994, Dunne got his first major television role, playing the troubled son of Judith Light in “Against their Will: Women in Prison.” This first break led to pivotal roles in other telefilms such as “Brother’s Destiny,” “Love and Betrayal: The Mia Farrow Story,” “A Husband a Wife and Lover,” “Mark Twain’s Roughing It,” and “Codebreakers.” In 1998 Dunne landed a role in the John Woo-produced blockbuster “The Big Hit” opposite Mark Wahlberg, Lou Diamond Phillips and Christina Applegate. Dunne’s feature films include “Borderline Normal,” “The Skulls 2,” “The Snow Walker,” “Species 3” and “Just Friends.” His television credits include roles on “Manchester Prep,” “Dawson’s Creek” and “Dead Like Me.”

On stage, Dunne has performed his one-man show “Safe Place” at the Alley Workshop Theatre in Toronto, as well as at the Writer’s Week Festival in Listowel, Ireland. He also plans to perform his second one-man show titled “B Movie Messiah in the City of Oblivion” in Los Angeles later this year.

Our intrepid reporter Linda Craddock was able to sit down with Robin and talk with him about “Sanctuary,” which also stars Amanda Tapping, Emilie Ullerup, Christopher Heyerdahl and Ryan Robbins.
