Yesterday, we brought you news that the rumor that a cache of lost Doctor Who episodes had been recovered was most likely a hoax.

Yesterday, we brought you news that the rumor that a cache of lost Doctor Who episodes had been recovered was most likely a hoax.

Part of this was because former Doctor Who consultant Ian Levine was vehemently denying news that the lost episodes had been found.

Now, he’s changing his tune and there may be hope for Doctor Who fans after all.

Levine tweeted yesterday that he was “speechless” and that sources at the BBC “barefaced” lied to him about the recovered episodes.

He went on to add that he has “three tons of evidence” and that he believes the rumors again.

Whether or not this is all true remains to be seen.

According to reports, the BBC has found a cache of lost Doctor Who episodes and will reportedly make a huge announcement later this year on what was found.

We’ll keep our eyes and ears out for more news and something official.

Actress Felicity Jones has been cast in a top-secret role for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man sequel.

But it appears the actress has let the Black Cat out of the bag on who she’ll be playing.

While doing publicity for her new movie, Breathe In, Jones was asked directly about playing Felicia Hardy aka the Black Cat in the upcoming sequel.

Jones appears to be caught by surprise by the question and then issue a non-denial, denial.

Last week, Doctor Who fans were buzzing with rumors that a cache of lost classic episodes had been recovered.

Many fans took the news with a huge grain of salt and it turns out it’s a good thing.

The rumor appears to be a hoax.

One of the sources cited in the rumors was former script-editor Andrew Cartmel. When asked about the news via Twitter, Cartmel denied knowledge adding that he hoped the lost episodes would soon be found.

Allegedly there was one man in particular making all these rather bold claims regarding lost BBC episodes. For whatever reason, many higher-ups at the BBC and within the crew of Doctor Who felt this individual was on the level. This seems to be at least partly true, as former Who script consultant Ian Levine made the truth very clear on Twitter.

Levine denied that the episodes were found and it likely that the 106 missing episodes would remain that way.

Look out world Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) are back together again and this time they aren’t saving the world from zombies but an alien invasion in “The World’s End.”

Co-written by Pegg and Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) the boys return to their hometown with three of their pals only to find that things have changed, and not for the better. They come back to their old hang-out, The World’s End Pub, to complete the infamous pub crawl drinking challenge they failed to accomplish 20 years earlier only to find the town on the brink of annihilation and it lands on them to make it all alright. Question is – Will they survive to The World’s End?

Directed by Wright in his directorial debut effort, the film co-stars Paddy Consadine (Blitz), Martin Freeman (the Hobbit Trilogy) and Eddie Marsen (Jack the Giant Slayer) as the rest of the crew of world savers. Support roles are held by Reece Shearsmith, David Bradley, Alice Lowe, Darren Boyd, Rafe Spall and ex-Bond girl Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher) is Pegg’s leading lady.

Look for this final edition of the Pegg-Wright trilogy in US theaters on 23 August 2013.

We’ve heard a lot about which Marvel characters will be added to the upcoming Avengers 2, but we haven’t heard a lot about who might not be there from the first film.

Director and writer Joss Whedon recently said that one character from the original will not make a return appearance.

Talking to Empire, Whedon says there will not be a return appearance by Loki in the sequel.

“Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you’ll be looking for ‘quim’,” he says. “First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it’s just a nice word.”

But this doesn’t mean that actor Tom Hiddleston is done with the Marvel franchise. He’ll be back in the upcoming Thor sequel.

Warner Brothers has already given the nod for a sequel.

The Seth Rogen comedy This Is the End scored a box office victory, as well, collecting $20.5 million, good for second place and eclipsing most analysts’ projections, which hovered around $15 million.

The magician-caper film Now You See Me continued its strong run, taking third place with $10.3 million.

Fast & Furious 6 took fourth place with $9.4 million, while the horror film The Purgewas fifth with $8.2 million. Final figures are due Monday.

Kennedy will make an appearance on the main Celebration stage talking with celebrity host Warwick Davis about her amazing career in the movie industry and her recent move to Lucasfilm.

“When I joined Lucasfilm, I immediately saw the true passion shared by Star Wars fans around the world. I’m thrilled to attend my first Star Wars Celebration and see in person that energy that makes the Star Wars experience so special.”

Nominated for eight Academy Awards®, Kathleen Kennedy is one of the most successful and respected producers and executives in the film industry today. She joined Lucasfilm in 2012, personally selected by George Lucas to lead the company. As a testament to her standing in the film community, she is currently Vice President of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), as well as sitting on their Board of Governors.

Kennedy has produced or executive produced over 60 films, which have collectively garnered 120 Academy Award nominations and 25 wins. Among her credits are four of the highest-grossing films in motion picture history: Jurassic Park, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and The Sixth Sense, as well as such blockbuster entertainment as the Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Gremlins, The Goonies, Poltergeist, War of the Worlds, Twister and A.I. Artificial Intelligence.

Her diverse filmography also includes acclaimed dramas like Lincoln, War Horse, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Munich, Seabiscuit, Schindler’s List and The Color Purple, and animated motion pictures like The Adventures of Tintin, Persepolis, An American Tail and The Land Before Time.

Kennedy has produced the films of such directors as Steven Spielberg, David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Robert Zemeckis, M. Night Shyamalan, Frank Oz, Peter Bogdanovich, and Richard Donner.

Prior to joining Lucasfilm, Kennedy headed The Kennedy/Marshall Company, which she founded in 1992 with director/producer Frank Marshall, and in 1982 she co-founded the phenomenally successful Amblin Entertainment with Marshall and Steven Spielberg.

What is Star Wars Celebration
Star Wars Celebration is a weekend fan festival that brings fans and families together, from all points of the globe, to celebrate the pop-culture phenomenon that is Star Wars. From its young fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars to die-hards fueled by the nostalgia for the original Star Wars trilogy; curious, casual followers; gamers, readers, costumers or collectors — there’s something for everyone at festival. This July, Star Wars Celebration will come to Essen Germany and promises to deliver a landmark experience where memories are made, families brought together, old friends reunited and new friendships formed – all in the setting of the ever-evolving Star Wars universe.

To paraphrase my friend Marsheila Rockwell, who saw this premiere with me: If you want to see a great Joss Whedon movie, go see Serenity. If you want to see a great version of Much Ado About Nothing, get the Kenneth Branagh version. If, however, you want to see Joss’ palatial home and estate, then this is the movie for you.

First, the good parts. Sean Maher is great as Don John — his agent should get him more villain roles, and those quickly. He was da bomb. Amy Acker is good and believable as Beatrice. Joss has a fantastic home and huge estate. So we know where the Avengers money’s gone, and well spent money it is. Everyone seems to be having a marvelous time, and it’s nice of them to share that with the rest of us.

The middling parts. Nathan Fillion is fine, but, despite having third billing, was in the movie very little. Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Phil in the Marvel movies series, is in the movie, so if you can’t wait for S.H.I.E.L.D. the TV show, you can get a Phil fix here.

Now, the rest.

Alexis Denisof is sorely miscast as Benedick. If he’s actually English, then he should have stuck with his natural accent, because his American accent is awful. If he’s actually American, his English accent is better than his real voice. Whatever on screen chemistry he had with Acker in Angel is long gone, which is too bad. But what’s much worse than his American accent or his lack of chemistry with his leading lady is his comedic timing. He’s not funny, even with funny lines. He does do some great physical comedy in what, in Branagh’s version, is the most hilarious scene of a very funny movie, and Denisof is indeed funny. In fact, in any scene requiring physical comedy he was hilarious. But once he speaks, he blows the lines, and no one, especially not his director, seemed to feel it necessary to correct him. It seems like the movie was made with one take per scene. I realize they did this in less than two weeks, but the idea is to make something awesome in that time, not something that feels like it was, well, made in less than two weeks.

The rest of the cast feels oddly out of place, as if most of them should have had different parts. Hero and Claudio, in particular, are not engaging enough to be the male and female ingénues, and both essentially fade off the screen whenever another actor is in the shot. I’m not Robert Sean Leonard’s biggest fan, but he was far more believable as Claudio than Fran Kranz playing the same role in this movie.

I didn’t mind the film being in black and white at all, but having the movie set in present day while using Shakespeare’s language does two things — it emphasizes the beauty and wit of said language while at the same time making clear how very outdated the language is. If the rest of the movie had been great I might not have minded. In this case, it just made me feel like everyone was lazy, that no one felt like putting forth the effort to translate the Bard into modern language any more than they felt like doing more than one take.

I realize that comparing this movie to Branagh’s masterful version of this story is, perhaps, unfair. But you can’t make a Shakespeare film without the expectation of comparisons to former versions. And, despite a cast full of actors I enjoy and a director whose work I love, this one just didn’t do it for me.

If you want to feel like you’re spending time with some fun Hollywood folks while they play around and have some hijinks with the Bard, then you’ll probably enjoy this movie. Most of the audience with me seemed to love it, and if you’re able to go just to hang out with Joss’ Gang, then you’ll have a good time. As for me, Ken Branagh remains the King of the Bard and all others are merely the pretenders to his throne.

Rating: C

Man of Steel is intended to do for the DC universe what Iron Man did for the Marvel Universe. The film will set up a larger universe for other movies, says script-writer David Goyer.

“It is our intention that, in success, [Man of Steel] would be the zero issue and from this point onward, possible films could expand into a shared universe. In our world, the Man of Steel world, Zack has gone on record saying that we’re implying there are other superheroes in this world. But I don’t know that they’ve come forward yet. The idea is that Superman is the first one. There might be people helping people, but not in costumes, and that Superman comes forward and announces himself to the world. In him announcing himself, he’s the one that changes things,” Goyer tells Collider.

He also adds that Warner Brothers is currently “kicking the tires” on the long rumored projects centering on Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

In addition, Man of Steel also sets up a reboot of the Batman franchise.

“I don’t want to get too in depth. Obviously, Zack and I have had conversations… but there would be a cause and effect,” Goyer says. “And that would extend to the collateral damage that happened, and to what other countries feel about the fact Superman calls America his home. Man of Steel doesn’t exist in a vaccum.”

We’ve heard that the new Superman movie and its sequel are paving the way for a Justice League film as well.

Are you excited to see what comes next for the DC universe on the silver screen?

Take it from a bona fide Marvel girl, Man of Steel is the Superman movie I’ve been waiting 20 years to see, and this one was worth the wait.

It has the right mix of humanity and epic, as seen in the parallels between the fathers as Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe reflect one aspect of that balance in their portrayals of Jonathan Kent and Jor-El: two very different fathers wanting to protect their son from the dangers of the world around him that he’s not yet ready to face, yet leave him free enough to choose what’s best and what’s right when it’s his turn to face them.

The reimagined history of Krypton, the chronicling of its rise, corruption and collapse, and the lengths Jor and Lara went to to be able to send their son to Earth with hopes of building a better world than Krypton became is not a new idea, but it’s done in a way that makes it easy to believe the actions that Zod and his soldiers take in their pursuit. Their fanatic loyalty to the ideal of Krypton becomes understandable, making Zod’s zeal as poetic as it is tragic.

There was some concern that the US Army leaders would end up being clichéd cardboard (which only turned out to be half-true), and about how they would handle Kryptonite if it showed up (it did, but it didn’t), but the twist is in how they handled the effect of his homeworld on him, as well as the reverse effect of Earth on the other Kryptonians.

Some of the battle scenes are filled with very quick cuts and moves that are sometimes hard to follow, but for some reason in the RealD 3D projection, that action wasn’t hard to follow or discern (see rants about unwatchable fight scenes in Bourne Supremacy). I feel the epic scale of those battles, given who the participants were and their abilities, far outweighed any minor disappointments with some of those shots being too short. I am curious if those scenes are still as easy to follow in regular 2D projection.

There may be a few minor quibbles from some about how the connection to the Daily Planet was handled, but in changing every other part of Superman’s story to fit a more modern world, there had to be a better way to reimagine that too, and it sets up the foundation for sequels. I think everyone can agree that the Clark Kent secret identity secret was one big part of the mythology that was in desperate need of a reboot.

Coming out of the theater Tuesday night, the news that talks had already begun with Zack Snyder on a sequel was welcome news, well deserved. It’s been a very long time since an entire theater sat captivated and silent through the entire film… no hushed chatter, no snarky commentary between buddies, everyone seemed to be transfixed, almost waiting for the moment when the story would disappoint them, and relieved at the end when it didn’t.

For me, this is the moment when the Summer 2013 Movie Season truly began.

Easter Egg: amongst the many corporate brand placements, keep an eye out for the label on several tanker trucks used during the street fight between Kal-El and Zod’s forces in Kansas. My guess is this may have been another seed planted towards future installments in the world built by this franchise reboot.

For those who want an unspoiled behind-the-scenes look at what changes were made to the backstory and why, there’s a 13 minute long Man of Steel featurette out there that’s well worth the time. It can be found in several places, including Hulu and YouTube:

Gonzalez put the comic up for auction and now he’s reaping the rewards.

The comic sold for $175,000.

The comic was in good condition for having been used as insulation for three-quarters of a century. It could have gone for more had a disagreement with his in-laws not created a tear in the back cover.

Experts say had the tear not been there, the comic could have gone for a quarter of a million dollars or more.

“The idea of this movie was always that it takes place at about the same time of the first one,” the sequel’s director Noam Murro described to MTV News. “It’s as if you zoomed out and saw a bigger time frame and told a bigger story of what happened in 300.”

The plot, according to the synopsis, pits Greek general “Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemisia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.”

20th Century Fox is close to acquiring the rights to the popular series of Choose Your Own Adventure novels.

20th Century Fox is close to acquiring the rights to the popular series of Choose Your Own Adventure novels.

John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment will produce the potential adaptation of the iconic 80′s book series. It’s hoped that adaptation would have a broad audience appeal and be the launching point for a new movie franchise.

The books were known for their forked or stacked storytelling, allowing readers to choose the path of the characters every few pages, with the decisions leading to different fates, good and bad.

The concept came from Edward Packard, who tried and failed several times to get a book off the ground. In 1975, he partnered with R. A. Montgomery, then an aspiring author and a publisher at a small Vermont-based press. The initial books had modest sales, and it wasn’t until Montgomery made a deal with Bantam Books in the late 1970s that the series became a huge hit, inciting spinoffs and imitators.

The line went on to last until the late 1990s, with over 180 titles and 250 million books sold worldwide.

Packard and Montgomery authored many of the initial titles themselves, but eventually started subcontracting out to other writers. When the two parted ways, Montgomery retained the rights to his stories and — more importantly from a brand point of view — the name; he now runs Chooseco Llc. Packard kept the rights to his books and created U-Ventures, which is creating divergent storytelling apps.

Fox will have all screen rights to the property and will be able to adapt it for multiple platforms. The next step is figuring out what the action-adventure story or stories will be, as the book series ran the gamut of locations (from the Sahara desert to the Altair solar system), time periods and genres (from mysteries to sci-fi and beyond).

Falling Skies will go forward without producer Remi Aubuchon.

The showrunner is departing the hit TNT series after this season. Calling the decision to leave “excruciating,” Aubuchon says he will turn over the reigns to former Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick and that he wants to focus on writing science-fiction novels.

Aubuchon tells Collidor it’s his life-long dream to write a science-fiction novel and that the demands running a show don’t allow him time to do that.

“Maybe if I were 20 years younger, I wouldn’t care and I would just keep going, but I really feel I need to pursue this road. It was all with good thoughts,” he says. “I even actually told them, when I took the job at the beginning, that I didn’t know how long I would stay. I signed up for two years, and two years was good, but I’d always had this notion that, as I got to this point in my career, I really wanted to try to pursue the dream of writing novels, and I hope it’s not an elusive dream.”

With Eick coming onboard it nearly rounds out the show taking on more of a “Battlestar Galactica” production look and feel. Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, the two main writers for BSG also do much of the writing for Falling Skies.

The Internet was buzzing yesterday after a visitor to the set of Transformers 4 thought they saw actress Megan Fox filming a cameo for the upcoming movie.

It appears that they only thought was Fox on the set.

Director Michael Bay took a moment to talk to E! and deny that Fox is coming back.

Bay told E! that the new movie is a “totally different story” and one that focuses on “Mark Whalberg and his daughter.”

“It’s the same. You have the three movies, but there’s a reason why there’s a new cast. And it’s explained very clearly when you see it, and it’s going to feel natural. So it’s not like we’re starting over or anything like that,” Bay adds.

This doesn’t mean that Bay isn’t open to former Transformers stars coming back for a cameo. But for now, Fox isn’t one of those invited.
