Space Station Crew Avoids Collission

The crew of the international space station got a bit of a scare yesterday. The six-member crew was forced to take shelter in a Russian space craft yesterday because of a potential collision with some space junk.

Space Probe Returns Asteroid Dust

A Japanese space probe has returned to Earth with some of the first collected sampels of dust from an asteroid, according to Reuters.

In an official statement, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said that electron microscope observations and analysis of the samples confirmed that material contained in one of two compartments of the Hayabusa spacecraft "were identified as rocky particles… most of them were judged to be of extraterrestrial origin, and definitely from Asteroid Itokawa."
