Reviewed by Michael Hickerson (Slice of SciFi Editor) One of the chief criticisms lobbed at Doctor Who in the 80s was that it became too insular with certain stories being so stepped in what's come before that novice fans would have a difficult if not an impossible time not just figuring out what was going [...]
"Bellflower" -- A Slice of SciFi Review

Bellflower revolves around two friends -- Aiden and Woodrow -- and their social circle. Aiden and Woodrow have a love of all things Mad Max, and spend their time dreaming up post-apocalyptic scenarios and weaponry. The heart of the movie revolves around a typical teenage love/betrayal story which, in the right hands, could have been a good one.
"Fright Night" -- A "Hollywood Reporter" Review
The remake of Fright Night hits theaters this weekend. Starring Colin Farrell and David Tennant, the film has been generating some solid buzz and already has the studio confident enough to put a sequel into pre-production.
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" -- A Hollywood Reporter Review
The Hollywood Reporter has weighed in with their review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

"Eureka" and "Warehouse 13" -- A Slice of SciFi Review
As irritated as many of us are that Syfy airlocked SGU, there's still some good news. Their solid one-two summer punch of Eureka and Warehouse 13 are back tonight and both shows are still as entertaining as ever.
"Alphas" -- A Slice of SciFi Review
On the surface, Syfy’s new summer series Alphas feels an awful lot like a clone of NBC’s Heroes. Ordinary people with extraordinary abilities are brought together to fight evil. But dig a bit deeper and you’ll see that, well, the show really is a lot like Heroes, only this time instead of fighting against a mysterious governmental agency, our elite team is a special branch of the Department of Defense.
"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" -- A Hollywood Reporter Review
Transformer: Rise of the Moon opens tomorrow. And with director Michael Bay telling us we must see it in 3-D, the question is--is the movie worth seeing at all?
"Green Lantern: Emerald Knights" -- A Slice of SciFi Blu-Ray Review
Disjointed storytelling detracts from solid voice casting and some stunning visuals.
When news broke that a Green Lantern movie was coming to the silver screen, the on-line casting couch targeted actor Nathan Fillion as someone who might make a good candidate for the lead role. One enterprising fan even went so far to create a trailer with Fillion as Hal Jordan.
Alas, it wasn't to be and Warner Brothers and DC cast Ryan Reynolds instead.
"Falling Skies" -- A Slice of SciFi Review
While best known for his work on the silver screen, Steven Spielberg is no stranger to television. One of his earliest directing jobs was the movie of the week classic Duel and many genre fans will recall that he produced the anthology series Amazing Stories in the early 80s.
"Doctor Who: A Good Man Goes To War" -- A Slice of SciFi Review
Reviewed by: Michael Hickerson (Slice of SciFi Editor) One of the problems with Internet rumors is that they can create false expectations for an episode. For example, last week I heard that as many as two other previous Doctors could turn up for a cameo in this week's mid-season finale. The story was backed up [...]
"X-Men: First Class" -- A Hollywood Reporter Review
The Hollywood Reporter has weighed in with a review of this weekend's X-Men: First Class.
Based on the buzz, it sounds like this one could be worth seeing.
"Doctor Who: The Rebel Flesh" -- A Slice of SciFi Review
Last year when Steven Moffat took over as producer and show runner for Doctor Who, the buzz was all about seeing what a full season under his guidance might look like. Most fans agree that Moffat delivered solid results in his first season at the helm and that just amped up the curiosity to if and how Moffat might top himself in his second season as showrunner.
"Doctor Who: Terror of the Autons" -- A Slice of SciFi DVD Review
For a story with as many pivotal moments in Doctor Who history as "Terror of the Autons" has, it'd be easy to think the story would collapse under the weight of its own reputation. Thankfully, that's not the case and instead of collapsing under the weight of expectations, "Autons" lives up to them and in many cases exceeds them.
