Farpoint Media Family PodCulture Presents: a Stargate Louisville Salute to Actor Don S. Davis

Posted by Sam on Wednesday, 9 Jul 2008

Brad and Christina take a week off from PodCulture, and dust off the Stargate Louisville podcast and join friends and fans in remembering a dear part of the sci-fi community, actor Don S. Davis.

Whether you knew him as Scully’s dad on “The X-Files,” Major Garland Briggs on “Twin Peaks” or as General George S. Hammond on “Stargate: SG-1,” fans were treated with a brilliant and heartfelt performance in everything Don did.

We had the distinct privilege of meeting Don at Dragon*Con two ago, and the genuine kindness of this man became a favorite memory of the trip. He was so happy to sit and chat with us, sign autographs and answer questions. A brilliant storyteller, consummate actor, and immeasurable footprint has been swept from us. May he be just on the other side of The Event Horizon, just waiting with smiles and jokes to share.

Please join us as we share clips from past convention panels, and some of our memories. We would also like to thank the listeners who have shared their stories with us (and you) as well. You can find the episode over at www.PodCulture.net.

Should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don’s memory.

Farpoint Media Family Fanboy Smackdown is no more — Long live the Back Seat Producers

Posted by Sam on Saturday, 24 May 2008

The Fanboy Smackdown podcast is changing its name, along with its address. After 61 regular episodes and a handful of special episodes, show hosts the Tony, Tony and Adam have decided that it was finally time to change the name of the podcast that has, since its inception, been focused solely on movies. The new name is suited to better describe the direction the show and website have evolved into.

Back Seat Producers will continue to bring movie review and analysis, as well as, featuring discussion about films, both old and new, along with topics in film-making. The title of the podcast also leaves the show open to dip into television and other media.

Back Seat Producers will continue to provide theatrical and DVD reviews and contests, and has recently added news features to its line-up.

In related news:

The Back Seat Producers are thrilled to welcome W. Edward Woodward III to the team as the website’s News Director.

Edward studied commercial art for two years and interned briefly with the Florida Department of Education. He is currently working in logistical support for a major coffee distributor. An accomplished artist and budding author, Edward is currently working to release his own podcast on the life of a geek parent. He brings to us a passion for movies and reporting and a desire to make The Back Seat Producers the definitive podcast for movie news and reviews.

Backseat Producers is produced by Unasked Question, LLC. and distributed by FarPoint Media.

Farpoint Media Family A Holiday Treat from Variant Frequencies

Posted by Sam on Monday, 17 Dec 2007

In addition to offering its listeners their regular story for the month of, in December, Variant Frequencies has prepared a special holiday surprise for fans of the two-time Parsec-nominated FAILED CITIES MONOLOGUES, as well as all those who’ve supported the podcast in the past year. We are proud to present THE FAILED CITIES: HATH A DARKNESS, an exclusive 10,000-word eChapbook written by Matt Wallace and produced by Variant Frequencies.

For the first time since concluding his groundbreaking podcast fiction saga, Matt Wallace returns to the warped twin worlds he created with an all-new Failed Cities story. Featuring the characters that drove the original audio epic, and told, as always, in their own voices, THE FAILED CITIES: HATH A DARKNESS brings this unique storytelling style to the page for the first
time, enhanced with original illustrations by Rick Stringer.

About THE FAILED CITIES: HATH A DARKNESS . . .

To some the number 99 represents the many names of God. But as a black snowfall blankets the Failed Cities on Christmas Eve, the arrival of 99 mysterious steel chambers is the catalyst that sets a series of far from blessed events in motion. From bullets and bata sticks to a life-and-death hostage situation to high-speed battles up switchback mountain roads, eight
people become links in a deadly chain that will either tether innocent lives to safety or strangle any hope for their future. And as each part of the story unfolds, we learn that above all things, Christmas in the Failed Cities is a feverishly struck balance between the constant threat of
violence and the briefest, most bittersweet moments of joy.

THE FAILED CITIES: HATH A DARKNESS by Matt Wallace is a freely distributed .PDF produced and illustrated by Rick Stringer, and available exclusively from Variant Frequencies. We’d like to encourage all our listeners to download, print, enjoy, and pass along this unique piece of the Failed Cities universe as a thank you for your continued support and enthusiastic
participation in our podcast.

And don’t forget to revisit THE FAILED CITIES MONOLOGUES, collected in its entirety on Podiobooks.com.

Happy Holidays from the entire crew of Variant Frequencies!

Audio Productions, Farpoint Media Family Voice Actors Needed

Posted by Sam on Tuesday, 4 Dec 2007

Written by: Jarsto van Santen (Freshly Green Managing News Director)

vob-120×120.jpgSome of you may be aware of “Three Edged Sword,” (TES). It is quite possibly the world’s best Babylon 5 fan audio drama. Certainly the best audio drama so far to emerge from a series of voicemails to FarPoint Media’s Babylon Podcast. While the Babylon Podcast is about to do a massive two week TES retrospective, TES itself is gearing up to end its first season in spectacular fashion.

The last few episodes of the season are going to be one massive space battle, and to show more of it we need more characters. We’ve already filled a couple of these new temporary parts, but we still have a good number left as well.

In brief, we still need 2 starship captains and 5 fighter squadron leaders. If you would like to be one of these, undoubtedly glamorous, individuals let me know. And if you’d like to know more about Three Edged Sword first, check out Voices of Babylon.
