Blockbuster, Live Nation Sign Ticket Deal

December 3, 2008 By Mike Hickerson Leave a Comment

Want tickets for a hot concert in your area?  Head down to your local Blockbuster.

Well, at least once a new three-year deal wtih Live Nation rolls out.  The rental giant singed an agreement yesterday with on-line ticket vendor Live Nation to sell exclusive blocks of event tickets at 500 Blockbuster locations.   The Blockbuster stores will also be able to sell general tickets to concerts and other events as long as supplies last and is expected to have some cross-promotional pieces within retail locations.

Live Nation is rolling out a new business unit, Live Nation Ticketing.  The hope is to compete with the popular TicketMaster service.
“Our research definitively shows that the vast majority of music fans who prefer to buy their concert tickets at a retail location find Blockbuster to be the most convenient choice,” Live Nation Ticketing CEO Nathan Hubbard said.

The deal helps put Blockbuster in a position to be a one-stop shop for entertainment needs with DVD rentals and sales, selling and renting video games and gaming systems as well as other items related to moives.

Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes said that Blockbuster concert tickets is “another step in the transformation of Blockbuster into a brand that offers the most convenient access to entertainment.”

He said he expects the agreement to drive “hundreds of thousands of customers to our stores.”
