Sam’s Bizarro DVD Pick of the Week

July 9, 2008 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

We are now living in the year 2097 and it’s been twenty years since nuclear devastation has left the world in near annihilation. What should we do? You guessed it — throw “The Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell.”

Our hero is named Tex Kennedy and he lives in an underground bunker. After being inspired from listening to years of radio broadcasts (never underestimate the power of the signal) from one King Remington, Tex sets out to move above ground and begins his infiltration of the “Threshold of Hell,” a notoriously dangerous stronghold of evil doers.

With the help of Yul and Quincy, which are two robots and a mythical heroine named Cannibal Sue, Tex begins his quest to capture the largest radio tower in the world (which just happens to sit in the center of the Threshold), and broadcast King Remington’s inspirational messages and bring about a new American utopia.

This 2006 satiric look at life after the apocalypse comes from the pen of Kevin Wheatley (co-director with Jonny Gillette). Wheatley also stars in the movie as Tex with Jane Seymour, Bill English, Jamie Bullock and Daniel Baldwin.

Look for the “National Lampoon Presents Beach Party At The Threshold Of Hell” Special Edition DVD set for re-release on July 15, 2008.
