One man. 30 days, 678 games. No online purchases. It’s the premise that launched a film over 10,000 miles in the making and showcases the adventure of video game rock star, Jay Bartlett, a fanatic collector in pursuit of his dream to own a complete official North American NES library. Along the way, filmmaker Rob McCallum examines the enduring legacy of the NES and Nintendo while talking to the enthusiastic community of retro gamers and game collectors.
Nintendo Quest features exclusive interviews with well-known names in the game industry including ‘greatest arcade player of all time’ Billy Mitchell, ‘Twin Galaxies’ founder Walter Day, and gaming personality Patrick Scott Patterson, as well as legendary game designers Warren Davis and Tommy Tallarico. It’s the first time a roster of this magnitude and talent discuss Nintendo and the landmark home console, the NES.
This week, Summer and S. F. chat with director Rob McCallum about the documentary Nintendo Quest, how the idea for the story came about, the planning of the actual road trip, and human side of Jay’s quest and why he was embarking on the journey.
Rob also gives us thumbnail overviews of his upcoming documentaries, including ones on “He-Man & The Masters of the Universe”, and on the history of the box art of home video games.
Read S. F.’s review of Nintendo Quest for more insights. Nintendo Quest is available now on Vimeo On Demand, and will be available on more VOD platforms starting December 1.

I collect filk/geek rock albums. I’m not sure how many I have since I have some on cassette and some as digital download. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was over 200. I have enough that when I go to conventions I have to make a list of what I have to make sure I don’t get any duplicates. I’m not sure how I compare with other collectors. These are albums primarily made for the love of the genre which is one reason I like them.

I completely understand the need to track what you already have so you don’t accidentally buy a duplicate! Done that, more than once, with reissued books, of all things.
