Warner Bros announced the main lineup for Suicide Squad on Tuesday; the film’s release date is slated for Aug 5, 2016. The film adaptation of DC’s team of supervillains had been revealed earlier this year, but today’s announcement settles some of the casting rumors that had been floating around ever since.
The official list so far consists of Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
Jesse Eisenberg is rumored to be in talks to reprise his role from Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice as Lex Luthor, but nothing has been confirmed or finalized yet. Casting is also still underway for the role of Amanda Waller, the character in charge of the team. Warner’s shortlist of candidates for that role — similar to Nick Fury’s role in the Marvel universe — include Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, but speculation has Oprah Winfrey as their first and ideal choice.
Suicide Squad is slated to begin production in April 2015, and will directed by David Ayer (Training Day, End of Watch, Fury).
