“Pacific Rim 2″ Gets Greenlight from Legendary

Those of us who fell in love with Pacific Rim now have more cause for celebration and joy — there will be a sequel, and plans for an animated TV series are also on the board.

IGN reports that Legendary Pictures has greenlit the story that Guillermo del Toro has been working on, along with announcing that he’s brought on screenwriter Zak Penn to help build the story alongside he and his co-writer from the first movie, Travis Beacham.

del Toro put out a short video, announcing that that Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb, and maybe even Hannibal Chau will be returning, and that the TV series would follow on from the Year Zero comic:

The release date for Pacific Rim 2 has been set for April 7, 2017. And there was much rejoicing.
