While much of the original cast of the Avengers will assemble again for the upcoming sequel, actor Tom Hiddleston won’t be among them.
Hiddleston says that it wouldn’t make sense for Loki to return to menace the team again on the silver screen.
“I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to The Avengers, narratively. Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one,” Hiddleston tells EW.
That doesn’t mean we might not see Hiddleston on another Marvel project — this one on our television screens. Hiddleston says that if the chance were there and the script right, he’d be happy to have a guest role on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
“It would be something that would depend upon script and story but yeah, of course… I’ve spoken to [Joss Whedon] about it. I saw him down in San Diego. I hear it’s good fun,” he says.
We already know that Agent Maria Hill will be in the pilot episode and that series producer Joss Whedon believes other crossovers from the movie franchise could work in the show.
“There will be as much as we can allow. We’re still working that out. It’s a fluid process… We’d love to see [Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill] again. We’d love to see Sam (Jackson as Nick Fury) too, but he’s a movie star and a workaholic. Whether or not he makes time for us again I can’t say yet… [Crossovers are] a great idea for the show and a perfectly good idea for (the actors). They’re superstars in that universe. If they showed up it would actually make sense,” Whedon says.
