Earlier today, we told you that Roberto Ocri and Alex Kurtzman are coming back to write the next Star Trek installment.
Actor Karl Urban has some advice for them when its comes time to pen the script for the next movie. Urban says he’d like to see a little more “originality” from the next big-screen journey into the final frontier.
“What I really believe we should do now is strive for originality,” Urban told IGN’sRoth Cornet during a recent interview. “In Star Trek Into Darkness we took one of the most revered and loved adversaries of the Enterprise and put him in there, and did a story that had all of these wonderful nods to films from the past, and episodes from the past. I really think that what we should do from here, in my personal opinion, is strive to be original. Strive to be something different and new.”
“Let’s not forget that Star Trek as envisioned was about space exploration,” he said. “It would be really wonderful to harness the spirit of that and apply it to the next film, so that we do something different than a revenge-based picture.”
Do you agree with Urban? What would you like to see in the next Star Trek movie?
Jayson Allen Quilantan says
I think The Cage would be an awesome story to remake/reimagine… with Pike dead and all, it would necessarily have to be a different story from the original pilot!
Leonardo Ramirez says
I absolutely agree with him. As much as there was great reception to this installment there were too many nods and rehashes to the past. I didn’t care for the role reversal death scene. This is supposed to be a new timeline. Make it so!
Dave M. says
Fresh minds. Fresh ideas. Boldly go where Star Trek should always go- to new worlds and new civilizations!
Sam Sloan says
I agree 100% with Karl. The next film should go where no other Trek episode or film has gone before.
Len Krieger says
A valentine to the fans would be nice. Fixing the time line would be better. Paramount needs to remember it was a loyal fan base for over 40 years that kept the franchise going. Young minds fresh ideas fine but but rehashing sorry, reimagineing, old Star trek films is not the way to say thank you to fans that have been there for so long. Argue all you want that the old fans are dieing off and new fans have to be brought into the fold. All you are doing is watering down Star Trek. You are left with Ho-hum new fans and alienated core fans.
