TV’s biggest scripted hit will return on Sunday, Oct. 3.
AMC announced that The Walking Dead will shamble onto screens for its fourth season later this year. It was also revealed that the season will be split in two parts. Half of the episodes will air in October and the other half will debut in February of 2014.
The series also gave fans a taste of the new season at their Comic Con panel today.
New producer Scott Gimple called taking the reigns of the series “crazy” and that writing the season premiere “blew my mind.”
He added that like the characters fans shouldn’t get comfortable. You may recall there were a lot of deaths last year and Gimple hints that the body count could escalate in season four.
“Things are going to be way crazier; it’s an escalation,” comics creator Robert Kirkman said of what to expect in the fourth season.
Series star Andrew Lincoln says that Rick will be in a different a place this year and that his relationship with Carl will define much of the season arc for Rick.
“The relationship with Carl is integral to the beginning of the season from Rick. [Carl] turning into a sociopath at the end of the season woke him up to his parenting duties. You find Rick in a completely different place this season,” Lincoln told the Comic Con crowd.
“The death of Andrea (Laurie Holden), combined with what happened with Carl was the catalyst to bring him to that point,” Lincoln added. “The brutality of pushing people away in season three wasn’t working for him and was cataclysmic for his family. When we meet them all in season four, there is a whole new community in the prison and friction between certain characters. It makes for incredible character-driven scenes.”
