Looking for a truly scary time the next time you visit Universal Studios?
You could have one if you visit the upcoming attraction based on the horror movie, The Cabin in the Woods.
The attraction opens in September at the theme park in Orlando.
In an example of life imitating art that was, itself, imitating art, both the cabin and the subterranean base unleashing B-movie hell on its inhabitants are going to be recreated as part of Universal Orlando’s annual Halloween Horror Nights celebration this fall. But don’t worry: Visitors to this particular cabin will be on the side of the guys in charge of the whole shebang.
According to reports, The Cabin in The Woodsattraction will include a storyline co-written by Goddard in which the larger mythology and background of the organization based underneath the cabin will be revealed, via Lost-like induction films to new recruits (i.e., the attraction’s visitors). “My wish for Cabin was always that it would live on outside the film, that people would take that ball and run with it,” the writer told Zap2It.com, “and I can’t imagine a better fit for what we were trying to do with the movie than make a maze out of it.”
While the Cabin attraction will sadly, out of necessity, lack both the apocalyptic scope and surprise cameo of the movie’s finale, that doesn’t mean that it’ll be entirely lacking in terms of unexpected appearances of last-minute surprises. “We’re trying to adapt this film as best as we physically can in the context of what we have,” Universal Orlando’s Michael Aiello explained. That means, in addition to the creatures seen in the movie, the new Cabin may also feature classic Universal monsters already appearing at the park. “We’ve got a couple characters that could open up from Halloweens past,” Aiello said. “We were granted amazing permission to be able to include some of [Universal’s] lineage into Cabin‘s lineage.”
The Cabin maze will run select nights from Sept. 20 through Nov. 2 as part of Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 23 event. So far, no sources have commented on whether or not the experience will be significantly different for those who’ve just smoked particularly strong weed out of telescoping bongs that could double as blunt instruments to defend yourself if necessary.
