Pixar’s streak of opening movies on the top of the box office continued this weekend with the debut of Monster’s University.
The animated feature took in $82 million in its opening weekend. It is the second best opening for a Pixar film, following Toy Story 3 three years ago.
World War Z overcame polarizing critical reviews to open with a solid $66 million in second place. Looks like the combination of zombies and Brad Pitt worked this time, but will it work next time? There are reports that a sequel is already in development.
Man of Steel dropped to third with another $41 million and $210 million in just 10 days. That picture’s 64% drop from its opening weekend.
This Is The End was fourth with $13 million and Now You See Me rounded out the top five with $7.8 million.
