After two weeks, Tony Stark fell from the top spot at the box-office. He was dethroned by Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and the rest of the crew of the starship Enterprise with the opening of Star Trek into Darkness.
The long-awaited sequel in the rebooted franchise universe took in $70.6 million over the weekend and has made $84 million since it opened Thursday. However, those totals aren’t nearly as strong as the 2009 reboot made on its opening weekend when it took in $75.2 million.
Iron Man 3 took second place with $35.2 million, followed by The Great Gatsby with $23.4 million.
Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain continues to linger in the top five, taking fourth place with $3.1 million, while the animated comedy The Croods did $2.8 million.
