Is J.J. Abrams trying to have a hand in every movie currently being made in Hollywood?
That may be a bit of exaggeration, but it sure feels that way. Abrams is already working on the next Star Wars movie.
At the DICE 2013 summit, at a panel with Valve co-founded Gabe Newell, Abrams revealed the two are in preliminary talks to develop movies based on the popular videogame franchises Half-Life and Portal.
“[The games are] as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets… which is that we are really talking to Valve, we are going to be bringing on a writer, we have a lot of very interesting ideas. Our goal here to is to treat the world Valve has created in both these properties like anyone would a book or some great story that comes from a pitch or original script — just to treat it with the respect they treat their games and their players with,” Abrams says.
In addition to the potential films, Abrams said he’d also like to see Bad Robot work with Valve to co-develop a videogame. But he clarified they want to make a “real” game, not some film-esque extension into the medium.
