The Expendables 2 opened on top of the box office, taking in $28.8 million during a competitive box-office weekend.
In second place was The Bourne Legacy with $17 million.
The stop-motion cartoon ParaNorman took third with $14 million.
The Will Ferrell political comedy The Campaign was fourth with $13.4 million.
Sparkle, the first film starring American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and co-starring the late Whitney Houston, managed a respectable debut, taking in $12 million and fifth place.

I have to say I was one of those people that helped the Expendables 2… but it was alot of fun and cheese. Like the audience, I laughed and cheered when an old favorite action star came on screen. I think what would have been perfect if Clint Eastwood or Harrison Ford appeared at the end and said “Come guys, I can’t wait around here all day.”
