There can be only one…
Or maybe not.
Actor Ryan Reynolds has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming Highlander reboot.
The Tracking Board reports that Reynolds has officially signed on to headline the new big-screen Highlander. Reynolds will play Connor MacLeod, who was first played by Christopher Lambert in the original film.
Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) is already signed on for the reboot, with Neal Moritz (I Am Legend) and Peter Davis (Highlander) producing.
Reynolds has been in several genre films before, including Green Lantern and Wolverine.

Wow, interesting choice. I wouldn’t hav guessed that one, but I’m game.
NNNNNNNnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As badly as Highlander was mangled after thee first movie, I have serious doubts about this attempt. Interesting choice though. I’ll reserve judgment until we get a little more info. For instance, who’s writing the script?
So this will be Snarky Highlander? Ugh! I see a constant stream of “witty” one-liners throughout the film much like him in the last Blade movie.
Well, It looks like there’s another Highlander film I don’t need to believe in.
Just doesn’t feel like a good fit. I like Reynolds. But not for Highlander. And I like Highlander. But not for Reynolds. Can’t see any of them benefiting from this.
Ryan Reynolds? Okay. Is Hollywood running out of action actors?
OK, so is he just trying out action persona’s until he gets one that fits?
I don’t even know how I missed seeing this news until the crew talked about it on the live video last night, but there you have it.
I Tweeted this after I heard them talking about it, but here are my casting options, if they really MUST go ahead with a reboot:
Colin Farrell as Connor MacLeod, either Karl Urban or Adam Baldwin as The Kurgan (or maybe The Rock if he were to fully embrace playing a bad guy), and Sasha Roiz as Ramirez.
As for Ryan, I think the problem is that people keep shoving existing action or superhero roles at him, instead of coming up with one that hasn’t been put on film yet and he would have a chance to make his own.
I think this may be one area where remake-mania backfires and hurts everyone more than they realize. How many times can one actor portray so many recently redone or indelibly iconic roles before no one wants to see him try any more remake roles?
I agree with you on this. I would love to see him do a part that’s not a reboot or something that’s already been done to death. I think he deserves better.
There can be only several.
Another “Green Lantern” accident waiting to happen
“You look like a woman you stupid haggis.” Now if he can udder that in a scott/Frenchie Dutchie accent. He shall pass…Of coarse this a silly idea. I nearly spit tea on my computer screen when I first read the idea.
