The big-screen reboot of 21 Jump Street helped put movie receipts back on track this weekend. The film took in $35 million in its first weekend and opened at number one.
Sony Pictures is already so happy with the returns that they’ve signed star Jonah Hill to a sequel.
The Dr. Seuss cartoon The Lorax took second place with $22.8 million, followed by John Carter with $13.5 million.
The “found footage” comedy Project X took fourth place with $4 million, and the Eddie Murphy comedy A Thousand Words rounded out the top five with $3.8 million.
