The first month of 2012 has been a good one for the comic book industry.
Sales of comic books were the highest since 2008.
Sales on graphic novels and comics were up 27.5% compared to the same month in 2011, reports ICv2.
January 2011 suffered a decline of around 19% on sales from 2010.
Comics were up by 32% and graphic novels by 18% last month, when compared to 2011.
Such a level of increase has not been seen since May 2006, which saw sales up by 32% on May 2005 due to the launch of Marvel Comics’ Civil War and DC Comics’ 52.
January saw the market share split between DC and Marvel, with the former shifting more units but the latter topping the dollar market share.
DC Comics occupied every spot in the comics top ten for January, enjoying a continued boost following the launch of its New 52 last year.
