The long in development Candy Land movie could finally be moving forward and moving studios.
The project could slide from Universal to Sony and feature Adam Sandler in the lead role.
Toy maker Hasbro is currently discussing the film with Sony after Universal ended their four year relationship. Sony is eager to duplicate the success of last year’s The Smurfs and thinks that a cinematic version of Candy Land could be an idea follow-up.
The movie would be co-produced by Sony and Sandler’s Happy Madison production company.
“Candy Land is more than just a game,” said Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad in a statement announcing the deal. “It is a brand that children, parents and grandparents know and love. The world of Candy Land offers an extraordinary canvas upon which to create a fantastical, live-action family adventure film with a larger than life part for Adam. We are thrilled to partner with Hasbro and Happy Madison on this project.”

Sad when the addition of Sandler is actually an improvement on a project. Thank gawd my kids are grown and I won't have suffer through this one.
