A decade ago, Neil Gaiman wrote an issue of Spawn. Issue nine introduced a number of characters created by Gaiman including a medieval version of Spawn, Angela and Gabrielle and the former Hellspawn, Cagliostro. Each of the characters went on to become a player in the on-going series and various spin-off projects.
Gaiman was reportedly supposed to receive royalties for the characters. He never did. He turned around and sued Spawn creator Todd McFarlane for the royalties and the two have been in a legal dispute since.
Until this week.
Gaiman announced yesterday that a settlement has been reached in the long standing suit.
Gaiman and McFarlane have reached a settlement that “calls for declaring Gaiman a 50 percent owner of Spawn issues 9 and 26, the first three issues of a spin-off series on the angels and the issues’ contents.” And with that the settlement, Gaiman will be getting monetary compensation.
