Paramount has delayed the opening of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters for a year.
The movie will now open January 11, 2013 instead of March 2 of this year.
Part of the reason for the move is the solid box office showing by Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol and The Devil Inside. With the box office returns from both, the studio will have a profitable first quarter of the year.
There are two other reasons for the move, according to an insider. The 3D materials for Hansel and Gretel are only now coming in, and Paramount wants time to market the 3D aspect, particularly overseas.
