Cumberbatch Beams Aboard

Sherlock is coming to the Enterprise.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on for a lead role in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek sequel, according to Deadline.

There’s no word yet on whether Cumberbatch will be friend or foe to the Enterprise crew.

The British actor is probably best known as the lead role on the BBC’s Sherlock. He is also in high demand in feature films, with a role in War Horse. He will also provide the voice of Smaug in The Hobbit.

UPDATE: It’s also been revealed that another British actor has signed on for the next Trek.   Noel Clarke, best known as Mickey from Doctor Who, will also be part of the next Trek.

According to Variety, Star Trek 2 will have Clarke playing a “family man with a wife and young daughter.”

Wow, great sign. I love watching this guy in the BBC's Sherlock. I can't wait to see what he can do as the villian.
