In the battle for box-office supremacy, two movies went toe-to-toe this weekend. In the end, Real Steel edged out the remake of Footloose by a slim margin.
In its second week, Real Steel earned $16.3 million while Footloose opened with $16.1 million. Those totals are estimates for the weekend, so it’s possible those could chance slightly when final numbers are released later today.
The new version of The Thing opened up in third with $8.7 million.
The George Clooney political thriller Ides of March was fourth with $7.5 million, followed by Dolphin Tale’s $6.3 million. That family film has been in the top 5 for a month and done $58.7 million.
