Woman Sues Over "Drive" Trailer

It’s happened to all of us–the preview for a movie makes it look like the film will be one thing, only for it to hit theaters and be something different than advertised.

Most of us would just chalk it up to the way Hollywood works and move on. But one woman in Michigan is going a step further. She’s filed a lawsuit against FilmDistrict, alleging the trailer for the movie Drive was “misleading.”

Sarah Deming says the trailer “promoted the film Drive as very similar to the Fast and Furious, or similar, series of movies.”

And while the film does have a couple of high-octane driving sequences, the focus is on the relationship between Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan’s characters.

Drive bore very little similarity to a chase, or race action film… having very little driving in the motion picture,” the suit continues. “Drive was a motion picture that substantially contained extreme gratuitous defamatory dehumanizing racism directed against members of the Jewish faith, and thereby promoted criminal violence against members of the Jewish faith.

Deming is seeking a refund for her movie ticket, in addition to halting the production of “misleading movie trailers” in the future. The plaintiff intends to turn her individual case into a class action lawsuit, thereby allowing fellow movie-goers an opportunity to share in the settlement, reports Detroit’s WDIV-TV.

  1. PLEASE tell me the judge spit in her mouth and bodily threw her out of the courtroom...? The litigious society we've turned into where its OK for someone to file a lawsuit like this is just embarrassing.

One would hope that this would send a message to big-time film studios, but I would be willing to bet that the studios, with their billions of dollars and big scary lawyers, will swat this off handily and be back to business as usual.

"Fast and Furious"? I didn't see the movie, but I was under the impression (from the trailer) that it was supposed to be like the "Transporter" movies.

  4. Oh. My. God. Can't she just drink the Kool-Aid, like everyone else?

    • How in the world was this even filed without the judge calling for sanctions against her lawyer for wasting everyone's time and what's apparently the last two brain cells this poor, learning disabled woman has?

Fer cryin out loud, I didn't pay that much attention to the trailer and I could tell it was nothing like the Fast and Furious franchise. What's next for her, saying that she thought Real Steel was another movie in the Transformers franchise because it had robots?

If she had walked out before the end of it, she could have asked for her money back at the counter. But nooooo, she wants some attention because every other idiot is getting their 5 minutes on the Internet, and she wants her turn.

"You can't fix stupid." Woe is the rest of us.

This lady has nothing better to do than complain about a movie.Hey,lady,if you're not sure what a movie is about, then read about it BEFORE you see it.It's not that hard.Maybe she's wanting some attention, since she's probably not getting any from her family, friends and boyfriend.Lady,I wish you lots of luck with a capital F..And thank you for wasting the court's time with this nonsense..
