Actress Evangeline Lilly says that working with Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson on The Hobbit is “inspiring.”
“We’ve been working up there for about a month now, and working with Peter Jackson is super-inspiring,” she says. “The amount of support that they provide for an actor… as far as every single aspect of your acting [is concerned]. I have a dialect coach, I have a motion coach, I have a language coach, I have a stunt coach, so I should by rights be great in this film!”
Lilly says that if she doesn’t do well, it’s her fault. “There is so much support for me in New Zealand,” she adds.
She also said that her character Tauriel may divide fans of the film, but argued that she has faith in the production team’s abilities to create a convincing original character.
Lilly added: “I am scared, I am very scared, because my character is actually not in The Hobbit. My character is an invention of Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, so either fans are going to love her or absolutely despise and be bitter towards her because she’s not authentic.
“I believe that she is truly authentic because Tolkien refers to the woodland elves, he just doesn’t talk about who they are specifically… [the producers] know that world so well and they are not going to create a character that is not true to Tolkien’s world.”
