"Monopoly" Hires Writers

While Universal may have decided not to pass go and not collect $200, that doesn’t mean the project to bring Monopoly to the silver screen is done.

With Ridley Scott attached, the project is continuing to move forward and try to find a new studio home. The project has hired Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen a script for the film. The duo worked on projects like The People vs. Larry Flint and the adaptation of 1408.

Producing Monopoly are Hasbro’s Bennett Schneir and Brian Goldner. Scott also is producing and is attached to direct.

Monopoly, which is about gaining market dominance via real estate and utilities, was one of the projects on which Universal and Hasbro partnered in 2008 to bring to the big-screen. It was also one of the projects dropped in recent months as Universal realigned its focus.
