Universal Cuts "Wicked Lovely"

Universal has decided not to go forward with another project.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal has put the big-screen adaptation of Wicked Lovely into turnaround.

Mary Harron was attached to the project which was being produced by Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Picture Show Productions.

The movie follows the high-profile plug-pulling of the studio’s Hasbro board game movie Ouija, which had McG attached to direct and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes producing. But while the latter was due to budgetary concerns, Lovely is being set free due to the studio realizing the project doesn’t suit their needs. It wasn’t nearly as close to a green light as Ouija was.

The book series is a Twilight-esque story set in the secret work of fearies and centers on a teenage girl who can see the hidden faery world. She confronts danger when not only do the faeries discover her ability, but also when one king decides she must be his bride.

It seems everyday I read in this column, Hollywood is pulling the plug on another big screen project. Pretty much everything they don't pull the plug on is cookie cutter crap. Very few good films. Everybody raged about the latest regurgitated version of Planet of the Apes. A decent film by todays standards. A crappy one, when one thinks of films made ten years ago, maybe even five.
It seems Hollywood is pulling the plug on itself. No big deal when you consider the latest shark movie and my Idiot Brother.

lol I haven't seen a great movie in a long time....most of the stuff coming out of Hollywood is average at best...tv is better(Doctor Who, Teen Wolf, Falling Skies, Eureka, Haven...to name a few). But hearing that it's a Twilight-esque story wouldn't put it high on my list of must see movies anyway. I hate Twilight.

Well I personally loved the book series- and TWILIGHT-esque it is NOT! (That's quite an insuly. Marr caters to readers between 16 and 21 while Meyer (twilight)caters to 8-12 year olds). I am glad to hear the books won't be butchered by Hollywood's incapability to keep all the plot lines from the book in the film version.(i.e Harry Potter)
