Looking to strike while the iron is hot, Sony Pictures has already lured back the producer and writers of The Smurfs for its upcoming sequel.
With the movie doing solid box-office business, Sony is eager to get the sequel moving and not lose any of its Smurfy momentum. The studio announced that not only is Jordan Kerner back as producer, but David Stem and David Weiss and Jay Scherick and David Ronn have already turned in a draft of the sequel script.
The early assignment was due to the large amount of lead-time required for live action/CG hybrids. Sony was willing to bet on the franchise, even though some questioned the appeal of a Smurfs movie.
