We have two movie updates that occured over the weekend.
First, those looking forward to seeing Johnny Depp on the back of Silver and wearing a mask (somehow that just doesn’t sound G-rated) are in for some sad news. Disney, the studio behind the new Lone Ranger production, has pulled the plug on the flick because of the tremendous budget costs involved. Word has it the film may be farmed-out to another studio, but nothing on whether or not Depp would stay on board if this were to happen. You may be asking what does this have to do with sci-fi? Not a thing. Stay tuned.
Mike Myers isn’t through with the Austin Powers franchise and many of his fans, including this writer, are thrilled with the news that he will be back for a fourth film of the world-renowned, groovey spy. Myers hasn’t faired as well in film outside of the Powers movies. His venture as the “The Love Guru” was a total disaster but he redeemed himself during his cameo appearance in the Quentin Tarantino film “Inglorious Bastards”. Nothing has been released on the plot of the Austin 4 and many or wondering if Seth Green will be the new Dr. Evil, Jr. since that is how the last film, “Goldmember” ended.

Sure wouldn't object to seeing "groovy" spelled correctly...
I don't know. The more I read about what this movie was supposed to be
http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2011/08/dances_with_wer.php
the more I find myself disappointed it's not being made. (It's hard to go wrong with werewolves.) If someone at Disney could figure out how to make a movie that didn't cost 200 million dollars (Johnny Depp has more money then God at this point. Does he really need another 20 mil?) and if they made it, well, I know they wouldn't go for an R rating but at least a hard PG13, I think it could have been fun.
