Reboot Rage: "Bewitched"

The classic TV series Bewitched is getting a reboot.

The series, focusing on a witch married to an ordinary mortal and the wacky hi-jinks that ensue, ran from 1964 and 1972 and has been a staple of syndication ever since.

Now CBS is looking to bring it back.  The reboot will be produced by Sony Pictures and overseen by Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher.  They produced the big-screen version with Will Farrell and Nicole Kidman.

Marc Lawrence (Miss Congeniality) will write the script and exec produce.

The project is still in the development stage, so we don’t have any indication yet who might take on the role of Samantha Stevens in the new version.  This is the latest in a long line of reboot projects for networks.

No, no, no! That "Bewitched" movie was awful! Besides, we have all of the original episodes that we can watch. Why not reboot a show from the early days of TV that few people have heard of?

  2. OK. Another brick in my childhood wall being knocked out with a sledge hammer. Great.

Of course, they might choose to go dark with it, right? Why would it need to be a comedy? Toss Whedon at it. He'd be able to develop it, keep humor, and have Samantha kicking magical ass while Darren dives for cover. That could work, right?

So what Kevin Smith once said IS true, "In Hollywood, you fail upward."

I heard the movie was absolutely horrible so I refused to pay to go see it. Now these same people are going to be in charge of making a new series of Bewitched? These people botched up the movie, why on earth make them the producers of a re-boot? When is enough enough????

I remember that show. It was about a guy who marries a magical being, then whines every time something magical happens.

Should have been called, "He Bitched."

You are so dead on. I actually used to call it that back when I was maybe 10-13 years old. I grew up watching that show(in reruns) and when I got older, I finally saw the one episode where it shows how they met and that he knew before he married her. Changed my whole impression of the show after that. Darrin was just an abusive husband who wanted to keep his wife locked up in the house. "He Bitched" was the name I gave it after seeing that's all he did. It was no wonder the Ad agency never did well. He had no imagination.

Hey John, the original series "Bewitched" came out before women's lib. A woman's place at that time was the home.
