The magic of Harry Potter hasn’t worn off by any means but after just one week the iconic franchise was beat down by the just released “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
Paramount Pictures has a mega-hit on their hands with the Chris Evans film. It brought in $65.8 million for a 3-day total. While that isn’t a shade of what “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ saw on its opening weekend it is still a very respectable box office particularly in these troubling economic times. The Captain America film is a precursor to next summer’s highly anticipated release of “The Avengers.”
If everything remains the same this is what the standing should look like on Monday morning:
#1 “Captain America: The First Avenger” $65.8 million
#2 “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ $48 million (in its second week)
#3 “Friends With Benefits” $18.5 million.
#4 “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” $12 million
#5 “Horrible Bosses” $11.7 million.
#6 “Zookeeper” $8.7 million.
#7 “Cars 2″ $5.7 million
#8 “Winnie the Pooh” $5.1 million.
#9 “Bad Teacher” $2.6 million.
#10 “Midnight in Paris” $1.9 million.
