While it’s being savaged by critics, the long awaited Green Lantern did solid business at midnight showings across the country.
The superhero epic sold $3.4 million in tickets for late-night showings, according to the Hollywood Reporter. That’s on par with midnight showings for X-Men: First Class and slightly better than Thor.
Both X-Men and Thor went on to have solid opening weekends and it’s hoped that Lantern will do the same.
The film will have to overcome negative critical buzz. As of this report, the film has only a 22% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
We’ll have the final numbers of how the film did later this weekend.

These movies are critic proof. The people will pack the theaters to see them regardless. Thus giving Hollywood permission to keep pumping out this half imagined special effects laden mess. And also giving them to permission to milk these cash cows until the udders fall off.
