Summit Finds "Divergent" Writer

Looking for a new franchise after the Twilight saga is done, Summit is looking to another best-selling young adult novel to pick up the torch.  This time it’s the best-selling novel Divergent from 22-year-old author Veronica Roth.

The dysptopian novel has been compared to The Hunger Games since it hit the New York Times best-seller list on its debut.  Summit picked up the movie rights and has tapped Evan Daugherty to draft a screenplay.

In Roth’s novel, society is divided into five factions that represent a particular virtue: Honesty, selflessness, bravery, perfection, peacefulness or intelligence.

At the heart of the story is a 16-year-old girl who leaves her family for a rival faction, where she faces a brutal initiation, even as she keeps a secret that could lead to her death. But when unrest grows between the factions, she must decide whether to reveal her true self in order to save the ones she loves.
