"Super 8" Opening Early

Paramount is trying to build buzz for the opening of this weekend’s Super 8.  To do it, they’re turning to the Internet and Twitter.

The J.J. Abrams film will debut Thursday evening in 300 theaters across the United States.   That number includes 239 IMAX locations.

To plug the advance screenings, the companies have designated the hashtag #Super8Secret, which Paramount has also sponsored as a promoted trend, allowing Twitter’s global user base a direct link to buy tickets.

Moviegoers participating in the program will be treated to a free popcorn with any concession purchase.

The promotion continues the partnership first forged between Paramount and Twitter in March, when the exclusive trailer of Super 8 premiered via Twitter, another first for the social media site.
