While the debut for the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise wasn’t as big as other installments in the series, the $90.1 million opening was enough for the film to enjoy the biggest opening of the year and the top spot at the box-office.
Audiences were eager to see more of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow if the box-office results are any indication. They went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in huge numbers and then there was a sharp drop-off to the second place finisher.
That honor went to Bridesmaids with $21.1 million.
The comic book adaptation Thor was third with $15.5 million. The superhero film has grossed $145.4 million in three weeks.
Fast Five was fourth with $10 million, followed by Rio with $4.7 million.
So... 2 Johnny Depp films in the top 5?
