Williams Offered Role in "Oz"

With the sheer number of Hollywood projects looking to give us a new spin on old stories and fairy tales these days, we wouldn’t blame you if you needed a score card to keep up.  Or if you just dismissed them all out of hand and threw your hands up in the air in frustration.

But there are a couple of them that sound intriguing enough, like the new Wizard of Oz project over at Disney.  Directed by Sam Raimi, the film is a prequel to the classic story.  James Franco and Mila Kunis are already on-board and now comes word that Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams is joining the cast.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Williams has been offered the role of Glinda, the Good Witch.

Kunis is on board as Theadora, a witch who falls for Franco. Rachel Weisz is in talk to play sister Evanora, the evil witch who wants to rule the land and tries to seduce Theadora to the dark side; Weisz’s involvement is complicated due to her having an offer to star opposite Jeremy Renner in a new Bourne movie that is scheduled to shoot at the same time as Oz.

If she takes the role, Williams would would play a powerful witch who teams up with Franco to defeat Evanora
