Two point two million viewers tuned in Sunday evening for the first episode of Game of Thrones on HBO.
That was good enough for the cable outlet to give the green light to a second season of the show, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
“We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin’s amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers,” says HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. “This is the continuation of an exciting creative partnership.”
The second season will adapt Martin’s second novel, “A Clash of Kings.”
We’ll have more on the premiere episode on this week’s Slice of SciFi.
