Gillan Drops Hints About Doctor Who

Five more days until Doctor Who returns!

Fans may recall that last season ended with the marriage of Amy Pond and Rory Williams.   As series six picks up this week, actress Karen Gillan says that while their wedding may have been the ending to one fairy tale, that doesn’t mean it will all be smooth sailing for the newlyweds.

“It’s interesting to see the affect that marriage has had on all three of the main characters and also it helps define Amy’s relationship with the Doctor. Something’s going to happen to do with this marriage that’s going to change the course of everything in this series,” she tells MTV News.  “It’s going to get quite dark. Everyone’s got a little secret from one another, which I think is quite interesting. Amy’s got a big one!”

Gillan quickly dismissed the suggestion that any rift in the marriage will be due to Amy taking a romantic interest in the Doctor, adding that the two characters work best as friends.

“Rory’s the one for her,” she says.  “Also, Amy with the Doctor – what would that even be like? She’s as mad as he is and they wind each other up so much… So I think they’re best off as best buds.”

Reading her comments and pairing them with hints that Steven Moffat has dropped, saying one of the four main characters will die in the season premiere, this leads me to believe that Rory could not be long for the TARDIS.

One of the four will apparently die. Yet all the three regulars can be seen in pictures from later episodes, and River Song died when we first met her. So it sounds like more hype to me.

  2. Why would someone have to die? Why couldn't Amy be pregnant? That could go a lot of dark directions, too.

They really can't get rid of Rory - I only started liking the feel of the new series once he joined the TARDIS. It turned them into a family/team instead of having it be the Amy Show, and I really like the interactions b/w Doctor & Rory. I've honestly never really felt the chemistry b/w Amy and the Doctor - whereas with other companions it really felt like they were friends, with A&D it was always more of a protective/curious vibe. Rory made it feel more real.

Not sure if this is the place to post it, and I'm sure something official will appear in due course.

Very sadly I have to report on the passing of Elisabeth Sladen who we'll all remember as Sarah Jane Smith. BBC news report link below.

@Chris, sad news indeed! Sarah Jane Smith was one of my favorite sidekicks in all of the Doctor Who series. Actress Elisabeth Sladen will not be forgotten by the Who fans!

I wasn't a big fan of Rory until the end of last season and he really grew on me...not looking forward to seeing him die "again". As for the Doctor and Amy not having a romantic relationship...kind of a waste to me...lot of chemistry between Gillian and Smith...and I'm a little tired of River. A shock to hear about Elisabeth Sladen...she'll be missed.

Although Steven Moffat's blinded about the Amy character because he created her -- and keeps telling everyone who'll listen -- I utterly loathe her and I know I'm not alone in that. I'm really hoping it's her who gets bumped off this series. And, no cheesy comebacks please. Kill her off and keep her dead.
