Best-selling author Neil Gaiman says that his upcoming Doctor Who story, “The Doctor’s Wife” was originally intended for production last year, but that the series couldn’t fit the script into the budget for series five. Instead, that slot went to “The Lodger” because it could be made “in a flat ’round the corner.”
Now Gaiman says his episode is the bully on the block and that it “took other episodes ’round the bike shed, beat them up and took their money to give to my episode.”
Gaiman says that waiting for series six was helpful because it allowed him to write for Rory in the story. At this weekend’s WonderCon, Gaiman talked about a scene he wrote for Amy and Rory that he called a “throwdown” between the newly-married couple.
Gaiman showed a clip from the episode and then went on to discuss how he grew up watching the show and that “his” Doctor was the second, Patrick Troughton.
The new series of Doctor Who debuts April 23.
