Lawrence Cast in Hunger Games

Jennifer LawrenceLast week, we told you that actress Jennifer Lawrence was the leading candidate to play Katniss in the the upcoming big-screen version of The Hunger Games.

Over the weekend, Lawrence was offered the role and has accepted it.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Lawrence accepted the role from director Gary Ross. According to the magazine, Ross and Games writer Suzanne Collins believe that Lawrence is the actress to play the pivotal role.

“I couldn’t be happier about being a part of Hunger Games and to play Katniss. I have a huge responsibility to the fans of this incredible book and I don’t take it lightly. I will give everything I have to these movies and to this role to make it worthy of Suzanne Collin’s masterpiece,” Lawrence said in a statement.

Lawrence was asked by the magazine which scene from the novel she was most looking forward to playing.

“I don’t think a particular scene made me excited to play Katniss, the entire book made me want that. That being said, I’ve never shot a bow and arrow, so that’ll be cool,” she replied.

She added that for an inspiration for the role, “Sigourney Weaver’s “Ripley” in Alien is the first that comes to mind.”
